Buying furniture & home locally
- Measure your doorways, stairs, and vehicle before you go, and bring straps and a blanket.
- Check upholstery closely for stains, odors, and pet hair, and look at drawer joints and table legs for wobble.
- Coastal humidity is hard on wood. Look for swelling, peeling veneer, and rust on metal hardware.
- Ask whether the seller can help load. Heavy pieces usually need two people.
Selling furniture & home
- Photograph the piece in daylight from the front, the side, and any flaws, and give real measurements.
- Price used furniture at roughly a third to a half of new, less for wear, and say whether the price is firm.
- Say whether pickup is ground level or upstairs, and whether you can help carry.
